If you haven’t tasted Heaven Scent cake, you simply haven’t tasted cake

How did you get into the wedding cake business?
We evolved. We started with donuts in 1995 and started adding items in the bakery line such as muffins, danish and cookies. As we grew, we needed a bigger store and moved our location. With the new room, we started doing birthday cakes and within a year, we hired a complete bakery department and began doing wedding cakes.
What is your most popular wedding cake flavor?
There are no most popular flavors anymore. It depends on the couple and what they like. The more traditional flavors are the most popular such as; white, yellow, marble and chocolate. I’ve had requests for carrot cake, red velvet and cheese cake (to name a few), but for the most part, the traditional flavors are still the main group.
Tell us about your most unique wedding cake you ever made and what made it so unique?
We entered a cake decorating contest a few years ago. The categories were: Best Wedding Cake Design, Most Contemporary Design and Most Creative Design. Our design won the Best Wedding Cake Design and Most Contemporary Design. The cake was a combination of patterns on each tier using rhinestones to make up the design. No one had used the rhinestones before but the “bling” was getting very popular, like cake jewelry, so we decided to come up with something that was completely bling. I will attach a photo of that cake. We put it on a turning stand which threw sparkles everywhere as it turned. The brides were blown away, it was spectacular.

What is your favorite thing about being in the wedding cake industry?
Designing new looks and dealing with the brides. They need so much direction when they begin the journey of their dream wedding and it’s fun to be there for them. As I listen to their ideas of what they have in mind, I design their look on the cake. It very cool to see their vision come to life.
What tips would you offer a bride who is searching for a wedding cake vendor?
Always sample the cake each vendor has to offer. Pretty much every bakery has good decorators but the taste of the cake is what they want to be excellent. Ask other brides where they got their cake and if they were happy with the cake and the service. When shopping for price, make sure to compare design to design and size to size. If one bakery gives a price for a cake that will serve 200 guests, write down the size to make sure each bakery is telling them the same size. Design is what drives the cost so if you are price shopping, make sure you get the price of the design. One design may be $300 in a certain size and the same size with a different design could be $600.
Do you offer any other services?
We also carry a large line of invitations, programs, thank you cards, save the date cards, etc. We have a person that sits down with the brides to help them find the right line to fit their needs. The personal service is needed to insure the bride can see exactly what she is getting. A lot of places will offer 50% off if you buy something from them but they don’t offer the personal service to make sure the bride gets what she had in mind. There are colors, fonts and sizes that make the difference in what the bride thinks she is getting and what she will actually get. In all aspects of selecting the right product, since most brides have never planned a complete wedding, personal contact with a qualified vendor in each field is most important.
We also have a person on staff that does beautiful silk flower arrangements. We offer the entire bridal party arrangements, bouquets, boutonnieres and all the trimmings. We also rent center piece arrangements and complete decoration of the banquet facility.
